Korea University’s clinical and counseling psychology program is the country’s largest, and it provides systematic clinical and counseling training programs and the highest level of education and research.
The program also offers advanced training that incorporates the scientist-practitioner and counseling psychology training models. Below are the research areas of the department.
Choi, Kee-Hong Professor
Professor Choi aims to develop and study the effectiveness of evidence-based psychological treatment and psychosocial rehabilitation. He developed psychological assessment tools for Koreans and created a hybrid platform that provides face-to-face and/or mobile/web-based psychological services, developed using ICT and machine learning technology.

Assistant Professor Heo researches surveys, behavioral experiments, and brain imaging focused on emotional processing and social cognitive functions. She studies the pathologies of depression, suicide, and non-suicidal self-harm, the development of related digital therapeutics, and continuous demonstration. Moreover, she examines the relation between poverty and mental health.

Dr. So Hyun "Sophy" Kim's has led more than 15 projects focused on developing and refining clinical instruments and intervention methods for ASD, funded by NIMH, NIDCD, NICHD and Simons Foundation. More recently, she has been leading a study funded by the Korean National Research Foundation, examining school readiness in kindergarteners with ASD, integrating behavioral and electrophysiological (ERP/EEG) methods, with a particular focus on cognitive control. She has authored more than 70 journal articles and book chapters. She is also a certified ADOS, ADI-R, MONSI-CC and BOSCC trainer.

As a positive clinical psychologist, Professor Gho is interested in the psychologies of happiness and love, ”happiness gamification” (i.e., the promotion of happiness through game elements), and “flourish” (i.e., the state of human mental prosperity).
He is currently developing AI-based digital psychotherapy using psychological diagnosis, one of clinical psychology’s greatest strengths.
Yang, Eunjoo Professor
Career, one of the important areas of human experiences, is not just about deciding one’s job. Rather, it concerns how to design one’s life, Professor Yang investigates career development from a life-span development perspective, with an emphasis on the intersections of individual differences, contextual factors, and developmental stages. Particularly, she is interested in career development trajectories and psychological resources necessary to adapt to increasing uncertainty. She also conducts studies examining the roles of cultural and minority identities on career development.
