Exploring human perception and neural mechanisms VCN
Professor Chai Youn Kim
The VCN Lab studies how a wide range of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral processes interact with human perception of the world.
Multisensory Experience and Cognition
The lab focuses in particular on visual perceptual experience and its neural mechanisms, examining how vision interacts with other sensory modalities and conscious cognition. To this end, the research employs paradigms such as visual illusions, binocular rivalry, and crossmodal congruency.
Neural Mechanisms of Perception
The lab investigates the neural basis of visual experience using methods including psychophysics, brain imaging techniques, eye tracking, scalp-recorded evoked potentials, and physiological measurements.
Perception of Art and Aesthetic Experience
The lab also explores aesthetic experiences in everyday design environments and in complex, high-level information such as works of art. Through collaboration, the lab seeks to share insights from this research with broader social and industrial domains.
