From Understanding to Empowerment: Enhancing Capabilities for People with Autism and Neurodivergent Conditions CCPL Lab
Professor Sohyun Kim
The SpectrumKU Clinical Child Psychology Lab (CCPL), led by Professor Sohyun Kim, conducts clinical research on the symptoms and behavioral patterns of autism spectrum disorder and other neurodevelopmental conditions.
Optimizing Development in Children with Autism
With support from the National Research Foundation of Korea and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the lab carries out longitudinal studies using advanced psychological and behavioral assessment tools, neurobiological methodologies, and machine learning techniques. These studies examine how early cognitive, language, and executive functions predict social communication and academic achievement in young school-age children. Based on these findings, the lab develops evidence-based intervention programs to optimize developmental trajectories in children with autism.
Optimizing Outcomes in Autistic Adulthood
The lab also seeks to reduce sexual health–related risks among autistic adults in Korea, while promoting physical and mental health and improving quality of life. To this end, the research incorporates the voices of autistic individuals and develops culturally appropriate sexual health promotion programs, followed by empirical evaluation of their effectiveness.
